NX-5, founded in 1965 by Neilson Frederiksen, originated from a personal experience and a passion for badminton. Neilson, a doubles partner of a Danish National Champion, suffered a knee injury just before a major tournament where they were expected to win. Determined not to sit out, Neilson went on a search for a high-quality knee brace that could provide sufficient support and allow him to compete without the risk of reinjury.
However, Neilson, coming from a modest background, discovered that the top-level knee brace he needed was prohibitively expensive and beyond his reach. Reluctantly, he settled for a lower-priced substitute but unfortunately re-injured his knee during a crucial point in the tournament, resulting in a loss and forfeit.
This experience led Neilson to realize that there must be numerous athletes facing similar challenges, where the cost of high-quality sports protection gear hinders their ability to continue playing despite their injuries. Motivated by his personal journey and a desire to help others in similar situations, Neilson recognized the need for affordable yet effective sports protection products.
Neilson embarked on extensive research into the sports protective gear market, focusing on the design, materials, and technology used in existing high-quality products. He began fabricating samples and exploring alternative, cost-effective materials. Seeking feedback, he distributed the gear to his friends for informal testing.
Encouraged by overwhelmingly positive responses, Neilson officially launched NX-5, starting with basics such as badminton racket strings, insoles, and sports compression sleeves. Initially, NX-5 sold its products locally, gradually expanding to regional markets, and eventually reaching a global customer base. Throughout its four decades of existence, NX-5 has remained true to its founder’s vision: enabling individuals, regardless of their professional athlete status, to prevent and protect themselves from sports injuries while feeling comfortable and stylish in their sports gear.
